Shopify Flow Integration

Shopify Flow is a tool for configuring automated tasks in your Shopify admin panel without coding. It uses a visual builder with triggers, conditions, and actions.

Availability​

Shopify Flow is available on these Shopify plans:

  • Shopify Plus
  • Advanced Shopify
  • Standard Shopify
  • Shopify Fulfillment Network stores

Prerequisites​

  1. Install the Shopify Flow app from the Shopify App Store
  2. Confirm your store plan is eligible
  3. Ensure your Metafield Studio subscription includes Flow support (Premium plan)

Accessing Flow Integration​

Navigate to Apps → Metafield Studio → Automation tab

You can also pin the Automation tab to your Shopify admin sidebar for quick access.

Why Use Metafield Studio with Flow?​

Metafield Studio provides custom Flow actions with two key advantages over Shopify's built-in metafield support:

1. Full Data Type Support​

Shopify Flow's default metafield actions are limited to the "string" type. Metafield Studio's custom actions support all existing metafield types numbers, dates, references, booleans, and more.

2. Variable Generator​

Includes a specialized variable generator that simplifies the creation of Flow variables for metafield operations. Instead of manually constructing variable syntax, the generator provides the correct format automatically.

How It Works​

  1. Open the Automation tab in Metafield Studio
  2. Create a new workflow or edit an existing one
  3. Set up your trigger (e.g., product created, order placed)
  4. Add conditions if needed (e.g., only for specific product types)
  5. Add a Metafield Studio action to create, update, or delete metafields
  6. Use the variable generator to configure dynamic values
  7. Save and activate your workflow
